THE PRINCE OF PEACE

Updated: Sep 3

JESUS THE PRINCE OF PEACE

Scripture 4 today (Isaiah 9:6)

Isaiah 9: 6 introduces the Messiah (JESUS) as the Prince of Peace “For unto us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace " Prince of Peace is one of the names given to Jesus, Why? Because it’s part of who He is, His essence, His nature. As Prince (son of a king), he has reign and a hold over peace. Jesus is in charge of peace and is the one who has the authority to give it out. Peace has been given as his jurisdiction- area of rulership. In England, the Princes are given a part of the kingdom as their area, of which they have been given to oversee Eg Prince of Wales. Obviously, the King is over the whole Kingdom but divides and delegates areas of his kingdom to his sons ranking in age order. Jesus is the prince of peace it’s an area of authority that belongs to him he reigns over anything that comes against or attempts to interfere with peace. When you engage with Jesus and have a relationship with Him, peace is naturally transferred over to you. It is a by-product of our relationship with him. Out of our relationship with Him, there is an exchange of all He is including peace to those who have chosen to live for Him. We can say it this way, that you can’t’ encounter Jesus and not experience His peace. Most people experience it first hand and testify of it at salvation – that moment they accepted Jesus into their hearts to be their Lord and saviour. We can be encouraged to know we only need to call on the name of Jesus and we are saved. This is not just talking about the point of being born again or our conversion to Christianity but every time we are in trouble, have problems or are in a sticky situation and if we call upon his name we shall be saved. Does that not give you peace to know there is someone always ready to help and save you, one you can depend on. Psalms 46:1 says He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. The reassurance that comes from this scripture will encourage you to trust God and be at peace.

Despite what comes your way, that attempts to take your peace away, the assurance is the same “peace I live with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ”[John 14:27] These were the words of Jesus to His disciples. His peace is different it’s not fragile like the one the world offers. His peace is not just about the absence of trouble or problems but an inner experience and assurance that all is well and shall be well for those in Christ Jesus. We can draw peace from him today by choosing his way of getting it and maintaining it. Phil 4:6-8 tells us how to choose peace over anxiety and that it's by prayer, supplications, thanksgiving, and letting our requests known to Him.
